Readability Scorer
Runs the standard readability formulas — Flesch Reading Ease, Flesch-Kincaid grade, Gunning Fog and SMOG — then goes further and points at the specific sentences dragging the score down, because "grade 14" is not actionable but "this 47-word sentence" is.
Free, runs entirely in your browser. No account, no usage limits, and nothing you type is uploaded.
Questions
What score should I aim for?
Flesch 60–70 for general audiences, roughly an eighth to ninth grade level. Technical writing for specialists can sit lower without being a problem.
Do these formulas measure quality?
No. They measure sentence and word length only. A well-written complex argument can score badly and still be the right thing to publish.
